The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has rejected the profit margin proposed by the government and has indicated the possibility of a nationwide shutdown of petrol pumps.
PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan stated that the association had demanded an 8% dealer margin, without which it is not feasible for petrol stations to continue operating.
He warned that if the government does not increase the dealer margin to 8%, petrol pumps across the country will be closed.
The chairman added that the association is giving the government a 10-day deadline, after which the dealers’ core committee will convene to make a final decision.
Abdul Sami Khan noted that the current dealer margin stands at 3.12%, and the government must provide a written assurance of increasing the margin to 8%.
He further said that the government may, if it wishes, implement the 8% increase in phases.
