Federal Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said Thursday that the government has finalised a revised net metering policy, which will be unveiled within a month, subject to federal cabinet approval.

Speaking at a workshop on energy reform, Leghari said the revised policy supports the cabinet’s broader directive to facilitate a sustainable transition to renewable energy while reducing electricity costs for consumers.

He acknowledged that recent increases in fuel prices had contributed to higher monthly fuel cost adjustments. However, he stressed that the overall electricity tariff trend is now on a downward trajectory.

“Electricity prices are steadily declining,” he said, noting that the shift to solar energy has gained momentum across the agriculture and industrial sectors. He also claimed a 30 percent reduction in industrial power tariffs over the past year.

The minister highlighted several consumer-focused measures undertaken by the government to reform the power sector and boost efficiency. He said the revised net metering policy would further enable consumers to benefit from rooftop solar solutions.

Additionally, Leghari said the prime minister is expected to soon announce a new industrial tariff framework aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistani industries.
