The Ministry of National Health Services revealed alarming statistics indicating that around 80 million Pakistanis are grappling with various mental health disorders.

This staggering figure underscores the mental health crisis the country is facing, with significant social and economic implications.

The report, submitted to the parliament, attributes the mental health crisis to several factors, with inflation, unemployment, and economic hardship being among the leading causes. Both men and women are affected, though a higher prevalence of mental illnesses is observed in men. The impact cuts across various segments of society, affecting employees, businesspersons, and the unemployed alike.

Rizwan Taj, a focal person for the health ministry, highlighted the widespread economic pressures that have destabilized family systems and led to a rise in anxiety and depression. "Today, everybody is facing economic challenges, and as a result, the entire family system has been disturbed," he said, pointing to the deep psychological toll of financial strain.

Medical experts have also pointed to external factors, such as the ongoing violence against Palestinians, which has added to the emotional burden felt by many in Pakistan. They argue that this global issue exacerbates feelings of helplessness and contributes to mental health disorders in the country.

Additionally, experts believe that economic disparities and weakened belief systems are major factors leading to mental health issues, particularly among women. The nation's youth are especially vulnerable, with many experiencing depression due to the lack of job opportunities and persistent unemployment.

As mental health problems continue to rise, this revelation serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for targeted mental health support and reforms in Pakistan.
