KARACHI: Doctors at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) have successfully carried out the hospital’s first-ever knee cancer surgery, giving a 26-year-old patient a new lease on life through a free prosthetic knee implant worth millions.
According to Dr. Farrukh, the patient was suffering from cancer affecting his knee and lower leg.
Following the four-hour surgery, all medical tests came back normal, and doctors confirmed that no traces of cancer remain in the patient’s body.
The prosthetic knee, valued between Rs1 million and Rs1.1 million, was provided free of cost by the hospital. Globally, such prosthetics last for 20 to 25 years, said Dr. Farrukh.
He added that the total treatment, which could have cost around Rs3.5 million in the private sector, was offered completely free at Jinnah Hospital.
