Almost 4,000 doctors left Pakistan in 2025 in search of better career opportunities and living conditions, marking the highest annual outflow in the country’s history.

According to a Gallup Pakistan report, based on data from the Bureau of Immigration, the number of doctors migrating abroad has reached a record level.

The report estimates that between 3,800 and 4,000 doctors left the country last year.

The survey noted that for nearly three decades, the number of doctors leaving Pakistan remained limited to a few hundred annually.

However, the trend began to accelerate after 2010, culminating in a sharp rise in 2025.

The report identified several key reasons behind the growing exodus, including poor working conditions, limited career advancement, security concerns, and the pursuit of a better quality of life.

It also pointed to the global shortage of medical professionals, which continues to attract Pakistani doctors to overseas health systems.
