Sindh reports over 6,000 Malaria in just two months

Sindh province is witnessing a concerning rise in malaria cases, with a total of 6,057 infections reported from January to March 13, according to the Sindh Health Department.
According to the report, in Karachi, which saw a total of 124 malaria cases, with the South District emerged as the most affected area, accounting for 44 of the reported cases.
At least 41 cases of the mosquito-borne disease were reported in District Malir, while District West recorded 19, Korangi 14, East 4, and Central District 2 cases. Notably, no cases were reported from Keamari District during this period.
The health officials highlighted the urgent need for preventive measures as the province grappled with this uptick in cases.
The Hyderabad division was the most affected region, recording 2,577 cases, followed by the Larkana division with 1,456 cases. Other impacted areas include Mirpurkhas with 685 cases, Shaheed Benazirabad with 667, and Sukkur division with 548 cases.

Health experts stress the importance of taking preventive measures to curb the spread of malaria. Key recommendations include keeping water sources clean and utilising mosquito nets to protect against bites.
The health authorities urged residents to stay vigilant and prioritise safety measures to combat malaria effectively.
Earlier, the Jang newspaper reported 10,000 rabies cases in Sindh, quoting Rabies Clinic In-Charge, Dr Romana Farhat, stated that during the first two months of the year (January and February), at least 5,795 cases of rabies were reported in Karachi's Civil Hospital.
