The federal government has approved a Rs1 billion allocation for the production of a high-quality historical drama series depicting the lives of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

The decision was disclosed during a National Assembly Standing Committee meeting chaired by Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar.

Following directives from the Prime Minister, the series will adopt a narrative style similar to the popular Turkish show Ertugrul, with the aim of inspiring younger generations about the struggles and ideals of Pakistan’s founding fathers.

The Iqbal Academy has already begun interviewing descendants of Allama Iqbal for the project.

Meanwhile, other heritage initiatives are facing setbacks. The proposed National Museum near Shakarparian has been delayed after funds were withdrawn, leaving only Rs190 million available.

The committee has vowed to seek restoration of the museum’s funding from the Prime Minister.

The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) also reported a severe financial shortfall following the Federal Board of Revenue’s recovery of Rs2 billion.

Committee members expressed concern over the deduction and have summoned FBR officials for a briefing, emphasising that financial stability is essential for protecting national religious sites.
