Renowned actor Faryal Mehmood, a renowned Pakistani television actress, recently shared an emotional account of her late aunt and veteran actress, Roohi Bano, who struggled with schizophrenia for many years, despite holding a master's degree in psychology.
During a recent appearnce on a TV program, Faryal described how Roohi often displayed signs of disorientation, such as mismatched clothing and a lack of organisation, which led her to be perceived as unstable.
However, when Roohi was on set with a script in hand, her professionalism shone through, making it hard to tell she was battling mental illness.
Faryal went on to explain that Roohi's condition worsened over time, especially after the tragic loss of her son, Ali, who had been her primary caregiver.
Roohi's mental state became more fragile, and she even fled from the hospital, fearing her home would be taken from her.
Eventually, after her son's death, she was left isolated, and it was during a trip to Turkey with her sister that Roohi passed away.
Reflecting on her aunt’s death, Faryal admitted feeling a sense of relief.
She shared that, given Roohi's prolonged suffering, she found comfort in the belief that her aunt had finally found peace.
Faryal recalled how difficult it was to hear reports of Roohi wandering the streets in Turkey and expressed that her passing marked the end of her pain, giving her a sense of closure and relief.
