Former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza's father, Imran Mirza, revealed that her daughter took a khula from former Pakistan cricket team all-rounder Shoaib Malik.
The revelation came after Shoaib Malik announced his second marriage to Sana Javed on Saturday on his Instagram account.
The 41-year-old batter shared a picture of a newly-wed couple donning embellished white ensembles.
Responding to the questions about Sania Mirza's divorce from Shoaib Malik, Imran said: "It is a khula."
According to sources, Malik and Mirza have parted ways but Izhaan's father reserves visitation rights with his son in Dubai.
Talking about the separation, Malik’s brother-in-law Imran Zafar said the family tried to salvage the relationship of the duo during a two-week stay in Dubai at the end of 2022, but it went in vain.
"Malik's family was not in favour of his divorce from Sania Mirza," he added.
Sources said that Mirza took Khula from Malik due to his alleged relations with other girls.
However, Sania Mirza never spoke about her alleged decision to take Khula from Shoaib Malik on any platform.
The couple tied the knot in 2010 in a lavish wedding ceremony in Hyderabad, India and celebrated their Walima in Sialkot. The duo welcomed their first child, Izhaan in 2018.
