A petition has been filed in the sessions court Lahore against actor Saba Qamar, alleging that she wore a police uniform without lawful authorisation.

The petition was submitted by advocate Aftab Bajwa on behalf of a citizen, Wasim Zawar. It argues that no individual is permitted to wear a police uniform or display the insignia of a senior police (SP) officer without official approval.

According to the petition, a video circulating on social media shows the actor in a dressing room wearing an SP uniform. The petitioner maintains that the act constitutes an offence under Section 171 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relates to wearing the garb or token of a public servant with fraudulent intent, and Section 419, which deals with cheating by personation and carries a punishment of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The petitioner further stated that a no-objection certificate from the police is mandatory for the use of police uniforms and badges, even for performance or promotional purposes.

Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan has sought a report from the Anarkali police by December 14 in response to the petition.
