Sardar Shah demands apology from Hamid Mir over ‘incorrect’ education data

KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah has demanded an apology from a senior journalist for sharing what he described as incorrect data regarding the Sindh Education Department.

Speaking at a press conference at the Sindh Assembly, the provincial education minister said that two days ago, a prominent journalist shared incorrect data concerning the Sindh Education Department.

He said that during a session of the Sindh Assembly, Faryal Talupr had spoken about the unity of Sindh, but the senior journalist had linked the education department’s data with Faryal Talpur’s statement.

Sardar Shah said the matter had both emotional and political dimensions, adding that six crore people of Sindh had raised a united and unanimous voice on the issue.

He demanded that the senior journalist apologise, saying that, as a matter of professionalism, an apology should have been offered to the people of Sindh.

The provincial minister said that the current challenges facing education could not be viewed solely from the perspective of one province or through a single lens.

He added that the problems confronting Pakistan’s education system had existed in various forms and with different complexities from 1947 to the present day.

He said that following the recruitments carried out in 2021-22, a large number of educated and qualified individuals became part of the Education Department through merit-based and transparent procedures.

Sardar Shah stressed that the issue of education should not be confined to a single province. Instead, he said, the education system across Pakistan should be reviewed as a whole.
