Renowned actor Nadia Afgan shared her opinion that living apart from in-laws can strengthen familial bonds, as both sides are able to give each other space and come to value their time together.
The actress recently appeared on a TV program, where she candidly opened up about her relationship with her husband and in-laws, emphasising the importance of maintaining respectful boundaries for everyone’s well-being.
"You can't suffocate the other person. Everyone is happier in their own space, and when those boundaries are crossed, it tends to create frustration," she said.
The Suno Chanda actor highlighted that overstepping these boundaries can destabilise relationships.
Nadia also emphasised that spouses should give each other personal space, explaining that her husband works all week and enjoys playing video games on weekends, and she never interrupts him.
"He deserves this space because he has worked all week.," she added.
When asked about her views on the joint family system, she expressed that she does not prefer living with in-laws after marriage.
"It’s not that the joint family system is wrong; it provides a strong support system. But when you are different from others and come from a different lifestyle, it is better to keep some distance," the Kabli Pulao actor explained.
She mentioned that her in-laws live just five minutes away from her, but they live separately.
"That’s the reason we have never had a fight. They have no complaints about me, and I have none about them," she said.
Nadia Afgan noted that in 18 years of marriage, she and her in-laws have always respected each other’s boundaries, and as a result, they maintain a close and amicable bond.
