Actor Hira Soomro voiced support for the legal right of men to marry up to four wives if they can afford to meet each spouse's essential needs, expressing confusion over why women feel hurt if their partner chooses a second marriage.

In a recent podcast, Soomro stated that financially stable men could consider marrying multiple wives, as allowed by law.

When asked how a husband’s multiple marriages might emotionally impact the first wife, she dismissed the concern, saying, “It doesn’t make sense to me.”

She emphasised that Pakistan’s laws permit up to four marriages, and men can pursue this within respectful limits and “good intentions.”

Soomro added that even if men lack specific reasons to justify multiple marriages, they should still be permitted to proceed, as “some men cannot be convinced to remain loyal to one woman.”

She argued that marrying multiple wives is preferable to engaging in inappropriate activities.

“Nowadays, women want to do it all. They want to work and have children,” Soomro remarked, contrasting this with older times when women stayed home while men worked, creating a more defined structure in life.

She suggested that women’s pursuit of independence and shared household responsibilities might prevent them from dedicating time to their partners, potentially leading some men to seek attention elsewhere.

“What kind of love is it,” she questioned, “when you force someone into inappropriate activities?”
