A light-hearted slip by former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar during a sports show has turned into a full-blown social media exchange between Pakistani fans, Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, and Indian media.
While analysing Pakistan’s chances against India in the upcoming Asia Cup final, Akhtar mistakenly referred to Indian opener Abhishek Sharma as Abhishek Bachchan.
“If Pakistan get Abhishek Bachchan out early… then what is going to happen with the middle-order?” he said, prompting laughter from the host and panelists, who quickly pointed out the error.
The clip went viral online, drawing coverage in Indian outlets and eventually catching Abhishek Bachchan’s attention. The actor seized the moment with a post on X, writing, “Sir, with all due respect… don’t think they’ll even manage that! And I’m not even good at playing cricket.”
Bachchan’s response sparked banter on both sides of the border. While Indian users applauded his humour, Pakistani fans quipped that he might have a better chance at cricket than acting.
Sir, with all due respect… don’t think they’ll even manage that! And I’m not even good at playing cricket. 🙏🏽 https://t.co/kTy2FgB10j
