Mir Raza case: Judicial commission announces Rs100,000 reward for providing key information

A judicial commission formed to investigate the death of Mir Raza held its first meeting on Friday, with its chairman, Justice Omar Sial, assuring that the inquiry would be conducted transparently and every effort would be made to uncover the facts.

Justice Sial said the proceedings of the commission would remain open to the public and that nothing would be concealed. “Anyone who wishes to can come and observe the proceedings,” he said.

He said the commission had been given 30 days to complete its investigation and would try to reach final conclusions within the stipulated period. He added that the objective of the commission was to ensure transparency and restore public trust in state institutions.

Justice Sial said an advertisement would be issued seeking information from people who had knowledge of the case. An official email address and WhatsApp number would also be provided for people to share information.

He said anyone providing specific and important information about the case would be given a reward of Rs100,000.

The commission also directed that a notice be displayed at the location where Mir Raza’s body was found.

The Sindh government was directed to provide the commission with a list of police officers and doctors associated with the case, as well as details of all evidence collected during the investigation.
During the meeting, lawyer Jibran Nasir said Mir Ali Raza had left his home at around 4am on July 28. CCTV footage from around 4:30am showed him alive, he said.

According to Nasir, Raza’s body was found near Masjid Khizra at 11:50am on July 29. He said an FIR was registered 11 hours after Raza left his home. The post-mortem examination was conducted by Dr Usama in the presence of the victim’s father, Nasir added.

Nasir said the body was recovered following information provided by nursery employees Yasir and Qaiser. Justice Sial subsequently directed that the nursery employees, Edhi Foundation volunteers and relevant police personnel be summoned to record their statements.

Justice Sial said Mir Hussain Ali would provide the commission with all information relating to the first three days of the case. The Sindh government’s focal person assured the commission that the required documents would be provided.
