A Karachi sessions court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of an application seeking the registration of an FIR against the makers of Indian film Dhurandhar for painting the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in a negative light and misrepresenting Karachi.

The matter was heard by an additional district and sessions judge (South), who had earlier directed the Darakhshan police station SHO to submit a detailed report. However, the SHO failed to present the report during the hearing.

As a result, the court postponed the hearing until December 23 and again sought the police report.

The application was filed by PPP worker Amir Khoso, who stated that the film’s writer, producer and actors used visuals of a PPP rally and images of slain former prime minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto without permission.

The applicant also alleged that the film portrayed Karachi, particularly the Lyari area, as a hub of terrorism, which he termed misleading and damaging.

The petitioner stated that he had approached the Darakhshan police for the registration of an FIR, but no action was taken. He then moved the court under relevant legal provisions, requesting directions for the police to register a case and initiate an investigation.
