Renowned Pakistani host Tabish Hashmi has expressed strong concern over the Gul Plaza tragedy in Karachi.

Speaking on Geo News’ programme Report Card, Hashmi said, “There is probably no home in Karachi without something that came from Gul Plaza.

From childhood to youth, and now in my later years, the associations and landmarks of Karachi are disappearing one by one.”

He added, “I listened to the Sindh Chief Minister’s press conference where he said he is accountable. But accountability is not just in words; action is required.

This is not the first incident in Karachi — there have been multiple fires, and children have died under garbage dumpers.”

He suggested, “If you ask me, I would say that just as the government realised it could not run PIA and privatised it, Karachi should be privatised too. The people of Karachi together can run the city.”

Hashmi further questioned, “If the CM is accountable, tell me — has his position been affected? Has his salary been reduced? The compensation given to the victims does not even come from their pockets.”

Hashmi concluded, “I am confident we can manage the city well, because under the current administration, despite efforts, it cannot be run properly.”
