Rajab Butt apologises to Christian community over controversial joke

YouTuber Rajab Butt and his friend have publicly apologised to the Christian community following backlash over a joke in one of his vlogs that offended Christian sentiments and sparked protests against him.

Rajab Butt visited the DIG Investigation office, where he met with Christian community leaders to address the controversy. He also uploaded a vlog on his YouTube channel, explaining the situation and stating that the matter had been resolved after his apology.

In his vlog, Rajab recounted that he had filmed the video ten days earlier in Karachi with his friends. During a lighthearted moment, they made a joke that unintentionally hurt the Christian community.

The vlogger, who frequently finds himself embroiled in controversies due to his online content, emphasised that the remark was unintentional and that he had already issued an apology after the incident.

Rajab maintained that he did not wish to prolong the controversy and preferred to resolve the matter amicably.

While addressing Christian community leaders, Rajab said, "I was unaware that we should use the term 'Maseehi' instead of 'Isaayi' when referring to the Christian community." He also urged his viewers to use the respectful term ‘Maseehi’ when addressing Christians in Pakistan.

Rajab’s friend also extended an apology to the Christian community.

One of the Christian leaders emphasised the importance of avoiding the term 'Isaayi' when referring to Christians and acknowledged Rajab Butt’s apology.

Another Christian representative commended the YouTuber for his willingness to apologize publicly and offered prayers for both Rajab and the country.
