KARACHI: Renowned Pakistani actor Saba Qamar has launched a mental health awareness campaign to mark World Mental Health Month, observed every October to promote emotional well-being and encourage open conversations about mental health.
Known for her outspoken views on social issues and acclaimed performances in dramas like Baaghi and Case No. 9, Saba Qamar — now also serving as a UNICEF ambassador — focused her message on children’s mental health, stressing that many young people suffer in silence when their voices go unheard.
“It’s okay not to be okay,” said Saba in a heartfelt video shared on her official Instagram account. “Concealing the problem isn’t the solution — we need to talk, and we need to listen.”
She asserted that mental health is as vital as physical health, adding that “talking about it is a sign of strength, not weakness.”
Reflecting on her own struggles, Saba opened up about moments of loneliness and emotional exhaustion.
“There have been days when things felt heavy, when I didn’t know who to talk to. But over time, I’ve learned a few things that really helped me heal.”
She shared three key lessons that helped her recovery:
Reach out — “Talk about your feelings. It’s okay to ask for help — from a friend, family member, or anyone you trust. You don’t have to go through it alone.”
Know your options — “Explore the support available to you. Help is out there, and you deserve it.”
Build a routine — “For me, praying, journaling, reading, exercising, painting, and listening to music have been grounding and calming.”
