Indian tennis star Sania Mirza's father has strongly denied recent rumours of her daughter's marriage to cricketer Mohammad Shami, according to Indian media.
An Indian news outlet spoke to Sania Mirza’s father to verify the marriage rumours surrounding his daughter.
He denied these reports entirely and insisted they have no basis in truth and the two have never even met.
"This is all rubbish. She has not even met him," he said.
Five months after her divorce from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, Sania Mirza is in Saudi Arabia to perform the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj.
Talking to her Instagram, Sania Mirza announced that she was embarking on pilgrimage stating, "As I prepare for this transformative experience, I humbly ask for your forgiveness for any wrongdoings and shortcomings."
Rumours of former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza tying the knot with cricketer Mohammad Shami circulated in Indian media on Thursday.
Several Indian media outlets have claimed that Sania Mirza and Mohammad Shami will get married in August this year.
Fabricated wedding photos featuring Sania Mirza and Mohammad Shami also surfaced on social media, fueling speculation about their union in the future.
According to the Indian media, Mohammad Shami married Hasin Jahan in 2014 and had a daughter in July 2015. However, their marriage ended when Hasin accused Shami of domestic violence, allegations which he denied. Hasin retained custody of their daughter.
Sania Mirza exchanged vows with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010. She has a son with Malik, named Izhan Mirza Malik, who lives with her.
Sania’s father announced her divorce from Shoaib Malik earlier this year.
After a stellar tennis career, Mirza retired in February 2023, and now shares her expertise as a sports analyst.
