4,750 surveillance cameras to be installed in Karachi's DHA, East and Malir districts

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday approved the proposed scope for Phase II of the Karachi Safe City Project.
Presiding over a meeting to review progress on the project, he instructed the Sindh police and the Safe City Authority to speed up implementation to ensure timely completion of the flagship public safety initiative.
Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar presented the plan for Phase II, which aims to expand surveillance across additional parts of Karachi, covering high-risk, commercial, and residential areas.
Key features of Phase II include the installation of 4,750 new cameras, upgrading 1,750 existing cameras, and deploying 3,000 advanced cameras, including Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) cameras to support the e-Challan (TRACS) system.
The enhanced surveillance network will cover Districts South (including DHA hotspots), East, and Malir,
The project will integrate the S4 system with the Safe City platform, upgrading its infrastructure to meet Safe City standards. The Command & Control Centre at CPO Karachi will be expanded to manage up to 6,000 cameras, and the existing Data Centre will receive significant upgrades.
Additionally, two Regional Command Centres will be established by enhancing the existing control rooms at the DIGP South office and the Civic Centre, covering the South and East districts respectively.
Phase II will also include a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, an upgraded call centre, 3D dashboards, AcuSeek, and other intelligent tools to support modern policing and emergency response.
The Chief Minister reviewed the budget, staffing, transportation, and operational requirements for Phase II, directing the Finance and Home Departments to finalise the financial model to avoid administrative delays and ensure a smooth rollout.
