On the 9th of Muharram, Pakistan is witnessing the observance of over 2,700 processions and more than 7,500 majalis across various regions under extensive security protocols, according to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The federal and provincial authorities have collaborated to ensure stringent security, particularly in 1,129 high-risk areas, which are being monitored through CCTV systems and aerial drone surveillance.
Minister Naqvi, alongside Minister of State Tallal Chaudhry and Interior Secretary Khurram Agha, is directly overseeing the situation through a central monitoring cell that operates around the clock and is in constant coordination with provincial administrations.
During his visit to Sukkur, where the country's oldest and largest Muharram procession has been held for over five centuries, the minister emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining peace and order.
Security plans were prepared in close consultation with provincial governments. Law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert, and strict action will be taken against any instances of hate speech or sectarian incitement.
Central and regional control rooms have been activated to ensure swift response and real-time communication.
