AIG Karachi suspends cop after video of abusive behaviour goes viral

A video going viral on social media, in which a cop in plainclothes is seen abusing a citizen after clashes on Sindhi Cultural Day, has moved the Karachi police chief to take action instantly.

The footage went viral, and upon being brought to the notice of the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, he directed disciplinary action against the cop.

Inspector Kamran Asher was suspended from service with immediate effect until the next orders.

The suspension will remain until the completion of the inquiry.

"On suspension, he is shifted to PHQ Garden, Karachi, where he will attend daily roll call and parade. He will draw his pa and allowances as admissible under the rules," the order read. 

An FIR had been filed under terrorism charges after one of the several rallies held in Karachi on Sunday to celebrate Sindh Culture Day turned violent, authorities revealed on Monday.
