All you need to know about Pakistan's Fateh-1 Missile that struck a blow to India's defence system

In the early hours of Saturday, Pakistan launched a retaliatory military operation titled ‘Bunyan um Mursoos’ following an  Indian air strike targeting multiple sites in Punjab province, including Nur Khan Air Base, Shorkot Air Base, and Mureed Air Base with air-to-ground missiles during overnight operations between Friday and Saturday. However, the Pakistan Air Force confirmed that all strategic assets remained unharmed.

In response, Pakistan launched the indigenously developed Fateh-1 missile. It was dedicated to the memory of Pakistani children who were martyred in the Indian military assault on May 6-7.

The Fateh-1 is a short-range, surface-to-surface guided missile, domestically manufactured and tested successfully on August 24, 2021.

With a range of up to 140 kilometers, the missile is part of Pakistan’s advanced Fateh series, which also includes the longer-range Fateh-II variant capable of striking targets up to 400 kilometers away with high precision.

The missile system can carry a warhead weighing between 300 to 500 kilograms, depending on mission requirements.

Fateh-1 is capable of targeting high-value enemy assets and installations with exceptional accuracy and minimal response time.

One of the key features of the system is its “shoot-and-scoot” capability, allowing it to reposition immediately after launch to avoid enemy counter-attacks.

The missile is also supersonic and maneuverable during its terminal phase, making it highly resistant to interception by enemy air defenses.

According to BBC Urdu, security affairs expert, Syed Muhammad Ali said that the missile’s precision, supersonic speed, and maneuverability enable it to penetrate and neutralise even the most advanced Indian defense systems.
