Mir Raza Ali case: Police Surgeon releases final exhumation report

KARACHI, August 31, 2026: The final report of the exhumation board constituted by the Karachi Police Surgeon in the Mir Raza case has been released, concluding that he died from a ruptured heart.

The report states that Mir Raza suffered a gunshot injury that entered through the back and exited from the front of his chest.

The exhumation board also detected a high concentration of explosive particles on his back. Based on the forensic findings, the report said the evidence was not compatible with suicide and described the manner of death as inconsistent with suicide.

Hydrochloric acid was also detected on Mir Raza’s shirt, while traces of the local anaesthetic bupivacaine were found in his blood.

The report also detected traces of bupivacaine, an amide-type local anaesthetic, in Mir Raza’s blood.

However, the forensic analysis did not detect any sedative, psychotropic, narcotic or poisonous substance in the other samples examined. The presence and possible significance of bupivacaine will therefore remain a matter for investigators to determine.

According to the report, samples taken from his shirt contained particles associated with gunfire. Lead and barium particles were detected on both the front and back of the shirt, with the report stating that their presence was consistent with firearm discharge.

The final findings of the exhumation board provide forensic evidence indicating that the circumstances of Mir Raza’s death are inconsistent with suicide.
