Another 'millionaire' domestic worker arrested in Karachi's Clifton

The Karachi police have arrested a domestic worker over alleged involvement in stealing millions of rupees from his employer's house in the Clifton area.

Gold jewellery and cash have been recovered from the suspect’s possession, according to the Sahil police.

The arrest was made after a Clifton resident lodged a complaint against her domestic servant, identified as Wajid Ali, who had been working at her home for the past eight years.

The FIR stated that the suspect had been gradually stealing money and valuables over several years. During interrogation, Wajid confessed to the thefts and revealed that he had also transferred funds using the family’s ATM cards and cheque book.

The police said that the recovered items included gold and Rs227,000 in cash. The suspect further disclosed that he had purchased property and vehicles worth millions of rupees with the stolen money.

A spokesperson for the District South police said that Wajid admitted to purchasing vehicles and property with the stolen funds and transferring money to multiple bank accounts. The Sahil Police have registered an FIR and handed him over to the investigation police for further probe.

This case comes just months after a similar incident in Clifton, where a domestic worker, identified as Shehnaz, was arrested for amassing wealth through theft and was found owning several cars, apartments, and shops.
