April 2025 among Pakistan’s hottest and driest on record: PMD

April 2025 was the second hottest and seventh driest in Pakistan over the past 65 years, according to data released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The national average temperature last month stood at 27.91°C, exceeding the long-term average of 24.54°C by 3.37°C. Daytime temperatures were particularly high, averaging 36.40°C — 4.66°C above the normal average of 31.74°C — making it the second warmest April for daytime temperatures since 1960.
Night-time temperatures also rose significantly, with an average of 19.36°C compared to the typical 16.80°C, marking an increase of 2.57°C.

Rainfall during April was 59% below the monthly average, placing it among the driest Aprils recorded in over six decades.
These climate extremes, the PMD noted, reflect a concerning trend consistent with global climate change, with potential ramifications for agriculture, water availability, and public health.
The unusually hot and dry conditions coincide with a rise in gastrointestinal illnesses reported in various parts of the country as the summer season sets in.
