Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that the initial rescue operation at PIMS Hospital has been completed.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, he said that the bodies of all the deceased babies had been handed over to their families. The Prime Minister has also formed an inquiry team to investigate the incident.
Talal Chaudhry said that the initial report had been sent to the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister. He added that the rescue team reached the hospital within six minutes of receiving the alert.
He said that all administrative officers were present at the hospital immediately after the operation. If there was any negligence, it would be revealed during the inquiry.
He further said that all evidence, including CCTV footage, has been secured. The investigation will also determine how many doctors and staff members were present in the nursery at the time of the incident.
It may be recalled that a fire broke out in the nursery of PIMS Hospital in Islamabad this morning, resulting in the deaths of 15 newborn babies.
According to PIMS officials, 16 babies were present in the nursery when the fire broke out. Fifteen babies died, while one newborn was rescued.
