Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zadari is likely to become with 14th President of the country today (March 9) as he manages to secure the support of over 400 lawmakers in the Senate, National Assembly and four provincial assemblies.

The election to choose the President is set to take place on March 9 (today) at 10pm and will continue till 4pm.

Asif Ali Zardari and Mahmood Khan Achakzai are vying for the top constitutional post of the country.

The former president has the support of PPP, PML-N, MQM-P and other parties, while the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party's (PKMAP) chief has the backing of Sunni Ittehad Council.

A joint session of the parliament will be held at the parliament house in Islamabad, in which the members of the upper and lower houses of the parliament will exercise their right to vote.

Similarly, the provincial assemblies will also hold their sessions today for the election.

According to the sources, the former president would secure over 400 votes in the March 9 election.
