Intense heat and the unavailability of timely treatment claimed the lives of at least 150 buffaloes in the last three days in Karachi.

According to sources, the deaths of the animals took place in Bhains Colony area of the metropolis.

Cattle Farmers Association spokesperson, Shabbir Dar, said the farmers had suffered financial loss due to the deaths of the animals.

Expressing disappointment in the performance of the livestock department, he said despite farmers' difficulties, doctors did not come to treat buffaloes,

He demanded the authority to provide the medication to the animals.

The association warned that the situation may cause a shortage of milk in the city.

However, the extreme weather was impacting both humans and animals in the metropolis.

The experts advised citizens to drink plenty of water, especially in the daytime.

The Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD) predicted a 42°C maximum temperature for today in the megapolis with a humidity level of 76 percent.
