Pakistan and Bangladesh have discussed closer air force cooperation, including the possible acquisition of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets, according to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations on Tuesday.

The talks took place during a visit by Bangladesh Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, who called on Pakistan Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu in Islamabad. The Bangladeshi air chief was accompanied by a senior defence delegation.

ISPR said the meeting centred on enhancing operational coordination and institutional cooperation, with a focus on training programmes, capacity development and joint work in aerospace-related fields. The visiting delegation was also presented with a guard of honour.

During the interaction, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu briefed his counterpart on recent developments within the Pakistan Air Force and reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to support the Bangladesh Air Force through a full spectrum of training, ranging from basic flying courses to advanced and specialised instruction at PAF institutions. He also conveyed assurances regarding the expedited supply of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, along with long-term training and technical support.

The statement said the Bangladesh Air Force chief appreciated PAF’s operational record and showed interest in drawing on its experience. He sought support in maintenance solutions for Bangladesh’s older aircraft fleet and in the integration of air defence radar systems to strengthen surveillance capabilities.

ISPR added that both sides also held in-depth talks on the “potential procurement of JF-17 Thunder aircraft,” a multi-role fighter jointly developed by Pakistan and China. The delegation later visited several key Pakistan Air Force facilities.

According to the military’s media wing, the visit highlighted longstanding ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh and reflected a mutual intent to further expand defence collaboration and pursue a sustained strategic partnership.
