Former prime minister Imran Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, Tuesday challenged the declaration of Khan House, also known as Bani Gala, as a sub-jail in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The petition named the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail, the Inspector General of Jails Punjab, and the State as respondents.

The petition maintained that on January 31, following her 14-year sentence in the Toshakhana reference, Bushra Bibi surrendered herself to authorities at Adiala Jail. Upon arrival, she informed the superintendent of her presence for arrest.

Bushra Bibi, in her petition, asserted that she never requested to declare Khan House as a sub-jail for her imprisonment.

The petition clarified that as 'a spouse of the leader of Pakistan’s most prominent political party, Bushra Bibi, like any ordinary activist, wishes to serve her sentence in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.'

It further mentioned that the former premier’s wife, being a woman does not consider herself secure in the Sub Jail as the presence of unknown individuals in her house makes her feel unsafe.

According to the petition, the £190 million reference (Al Qadir Trust case) against Bushra Bibi is also scheduled for hearing on February 10. The unnecessary exercise of bringing her from Sub Jail to Adiala Jail will increase the burden on the authorities.

She requested that the notification declaring Bani Gala House as a sub-jail on 31st January 2024 should be quashed and orders should be issued to transfer her back to Adiala Jail.

Earlier on January 31, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in rigorous prison in the Toshakhana case.

Following the accountability court's judgment in the anti-graft case, Bushra Bibi voluntarily surrendered herself before the authorities.

She chose to surrender directly to the authorities after being convicted in the Tosha Khana case.
