The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has unveiled a newly upgraded version of its chipless Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), aimed at expanding access to digital services while keeping costs affordable for citizens.
The improved chipless CNIC now offers bilingual text in English and Urdu, aligning it with official Pakistani documents like passports.
One of the standout new features is the addition of a QR code, which enables users to link their digital identity via NADRA’s Pak ID mobile app—bringing its functionality closer to the more expensive Smart CNICs.
The revamped CNIC is now available for citizens applying for renewals, data changes, or replacements due to loss. NADRA has also revised its fee structure, making the card more accessible:

With this upgrade, NADRA aims to make digital identity services more inclusive while reducing dependency on the costlier chip-based options.
