Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Friday announced a cash prize of Rs100 million (PKR 10 crore) for Pakistan's star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, who made history by winning the first-ever individual gold medal for the country.

The 27-year-old athlete made the country proud on August 9 after he secured the gold for Pakistan at the Paris Olympics 2024 in 40 years.

Arshad also broke the Olympic target by setting a new record with a spectacular 92.97-metre throw in the Summer Games.

Following the achievement, Punjab's first woman CM announced a cash prize worth Rs100 million for the athlete.

"Well done Arshad Nadeem. You gave an Independence Day gift to the nation," she said in her message.

CM Punjab also announced to build a sports city in Mian Channu, which will be named after the national hero.

Earlier, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that Rs50 million reward will be handed over to Arshad on behalf of Sindh government.

Governor Sindh, Kamran Tessori, had also pledged a Rs2 million cash prize and an iPhone 15 for the national star.

Renowned singer Ali Zafar offered a Rs1 million cash prize and urged the government of Pakistan “to welcome him like a hero and establish a sports academy in his name.”
