Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has imposed a ban on the manufacture, sale and purchase of non-biodegradable polythene bags in the province.

The ban will come into effect from June 6 across Pakistan's largest province.

The decision was taken during the meeting of the provincial cabinet, chaired by seniour minister Punjab, Marriyum Aurangzeb.

The meeting decided to digitalise the kiln industrial system in order to maintain the air quality index of the province.

"Quality life is the right of every individual as per the vision of CM Punjab [Maryam Nawaz]. No individual will be allowed to play with the human lives," she said during the meeting.

Anyone found violating the restriction and spreading air pollution would be punished, Aurangzeb added.

In the meeting, the seniour minister also directed authorities to establish the "Environment Climate Change Council" in educational institutions to make students 'environmental ambassadors'.

She informed that the ban on plastic bags was imposed on the directions of CM Maryam Nawaz.
