The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that the intensity of cold is likely to increase in Karachi from January 4 and 5.

According to Deputy Director Meteorology Anjum Nazir Zaigham, temperatures in the port city could fall to single digits in the coming days.

He said a spell of western winds has been affecting large parts of the country since December 29, resulting in light rainfall across most areas of Karachi.

Following the rainfall, electricity supply was disrupted in several neighbourhoods of the city. Meanwhile, in Sukkur, more than 50 feeders tripped in the SEPCO region due to rain.

The highest rainfall in Karachi was recorded in Kemari, measuring 6 millimetres, while the spell of rain in the city has now largely subsided.

According to the meteorological outlook, the western winds will move eastward, paving the way for Siberian winds to take effect.

As a result, a further drop in temperatures and a sharper cold spell are expected in the coming days.
