Karachi DHA scuffle: Woman files fresh FIR against neighbours, police

A new FIR has been registered over last month’s scuffle at a DHA Phase 6 apartment on the complaint of the woman who was shown being assaulted in CCTV footage of the incident.

The woman has accused her neighbours and police personnel of assaulting her and her family, taking away their mobile phones and damaging a security camera.

The case was registered at Darakhshan police station on September 5, after a police inquiry questioned the findings of the first FIR in the matter.

The dispute dates back to August 20, when the complainant said she was at home with her mother and brother at around 11:45pm. She alleged that a police officer first came to their apartment and told them that a neighbour wanted them to come downstairs.

According to her account in the new FIR, the neighbour soon arrived at their door, started abusing her and began banging on it. The complainant alleged that when she opened the door, the woman pulled her by the hair and took her mobile phone before throwing it away.

She said her mother came out after hearing the commotion and was also grabbed by the hair and assaulted. The complainant alleged that the neighbour later returned with her daughter and police officials. She claimed that the group tried to take their phones, while the daughter, who was carrying a dumbbell, attacked her and her family.

The family then went back inside their apartment and called the police, according to the complainant.

She alleged that police personnel outside subsequently damaged the CCTV camera, while Darakhshan police later entered the apartment and took away her phone and her brother’s phone.

The woman has asked police to take action against those involved, alleging assault, theft of the family’s mobile phones and damage to the security camera.

The latest case follows viral CCTV footage showing the confrontation at the apartment building. The footage showed police officials restraining the complainant while another woman appeared to attack her with a dumbbell.
