Karachi: Authorities have launched a city-wide crackdown on illegal livestock markets across various areas of Karachi, following directives from the Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi.

Officials confirmed that multiple individuals have been arrested and First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered as part of the enforcement action against unauthorised cattle markets.

In Shah Faisal Colony, a person was detained for setting up an illegal livestock market, while authorities also dismantled several other unauthorised setups across the city.

In District Central, Deputy Commissioner Taha Saleem confirmed the removal of a livestock market established at Piaala Hotel.

He said action was being taken against those responsible and added that staff had been deployed to prevent further sale and purchase of animals at the site. He further noted that the same location had been cleared twice previously.

Additional illegal markets were removed from multiple locations, including Mukhdum Society A-3 Sub-Division Korangi, near Korangi No. 5 bridge, Nasir Jump and New Town police station limits, as well as 16000 Road Chakra Goth, Punjab Ground Shah Faisal, and Raita Plot Shah Faisal.

In District Central, markets were also cleared from areas near Saba Cinema, Essa Nagri, Sangol Lane and once again near Piaala Hotel, according to officials.

In District Keamari, Deputy Commissioner Amir Feroz Owaisi said illegal livestock setups at Mauripur Truck Stand had also been removed. He added that a large-scale unauthorised market had been operating in the area, causing traffic disruption towards Hawkesbay.

Authorities said the illegal markets were contributing to severe traffic congestion and were also affecting sanitation systems across the city.

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi stated that district administrations, with the support of police, are continuing operations against illegal markets, adding that the increased traffic pressure and poor sanitation conditions were creating difficulties for residents.
