Karachi DHA brawl: Probe ordered over alleged police involvement

The Karachi police have launched a probe after CCTV footage from a DHA Phase 6 apartment building appeared to show people in police uniforms getting involved in a dispute between residents.

The footage shows a woman carrying a dumbbell running down the stairs and striking another woman. Two people dressed as cops appear to hold the woman being attacked while a man arrives and confronts the other woman.

The confrontation continues outside the apartment, where the woman with the dumbbell and another man are seen hitting the door and shouting at the residents inside.

The video ends with a man wearing a shalwar kameez smashing the CCTV camera with a weapon that appears to have been handed to him by one of the uniformed individuals.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza has reportedly ordered an impartial investigation into the matter. He said that both groups involved made allegations against each other.

A separate account of the incident appears in an FIR registered at Darakhshan police station on Aug 21. The complainant alleged that three residents from another floor came to her apartment following a dispute over parking, kicked her door and assaulted and threatened her after she opened it.

The police reportedly detained the brother and sister involved after arriving at the scene, while their mother left the area. The complainant also alleged that her gold earring and two rings were taken during the confrontation.
