Member of the provincial assembly in Sindh, MPA Yousuf Baloch, confirmed that arrangements have been made to provide temporary shelter in hotels for the families displaced by the recent building collapse in Lyari's Baghdadi area.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Friday, involved the collapse of a five-storey residential building, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 people.
Speaking to a private news channel, Yousuf Baloch said that multiple hotels in the vicinity have been secured to house the affected residents while further assistance is being coordinated.
Meanwhile, authorities have evacuated surrounding buildings as a precautionary measure. A heavy police presence remains at the site, and the area has been cordoned off to ensure public safety and facilitate rescue and clearance operations.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani visited the scene. Ghani claimed that final evacuation notices were issued as recently as June 2, but residents and victims disputed this, saying no warning was given.
Police had to resort to baton-charging the crowd that gathered near the debris as emotions ran high.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the incident and ordered a high-level inquiry. Several SBCA (Sindh Building Control Authority) officers have been suspended, and the CM has demanded a detailed list of all unsafe buildings across the city.
