Sindh Transport and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed on Thursday that the provincial government is preparing to introduce double-decker buses on Karachi's roads this year.
He confirmed that procurement efforts for these buses are already underway, with plans to deploy them on Sharae Faisal.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Memon stated, "The double-decker buses will be procured this year and will operate on Sharae Faisal."
He added, "The Sindh government is committed to advancing transport infrastructure across the province, with double-decker buses being an integral part of our efforts."
The minister also addressed concerns regarding the delay in the Red Line BRT project, emphasising that the delay was caused by the relocation of utilities and not due to the provincial government's actions.
Memon took the opportunity to highlight the attention that President Asif Ali Zardari gives to the business community, saying, "Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and the Sindh government are fully attuned to the concerns of the business community, recognizing its significant role in driving the nation’s economy."
The minister showed his support for the creation of new industrial zones, especially the Dhabeji Economic Zone, a pivotal project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
However, he clarified that the IMF program currently restricts the establishment of additional special economic zones.
On the subject of infrastructure, Memon announced that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto would inaugurate the Malir Expressway within two days, calling it a "gift from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for Karachi’s residents."
He also mentioned that KATI (Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry) representatives would be invited to attend the upcoming board meeting for the Yellow Line BRT project. Additionally, Memon expressed his goal of completing the Jam Sadiq Bridge project within the next eight months.
