The District Education Performance Index 2023 report has been unveiled, offering detailed insights into the educational landscape across Pakistan.
Notably, districts from Sindh and Balochistan do not feature in the top 10 for educational performance. The District Education Performance Index 2023 ranking revealed that Islamabad, along with seven districts from Punjab and two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are among the top performers.
A total of 134 districts are acknowledged for their high educational standards, whereas 77 districts are marked for low performance. Islamabad has emerged as a leading performer.
In Punjab, Jhelum, Chakwal, Haripur, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot are highlighted for their top educational achievements, with Attock, Narowal, and Gujrat also showing significant progress. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haripur and Chitral are noted for their educational successes.
The report positions Abbottabad at 11th, Karachi East at 14th, and Karachi Central at 15th in educational performance. Lahore is ranked 18th, Multan 47th, Peshawar 53rd, and Quetta 68th.
Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal on Friday expressed concern over the fall of 58 percent of the country’s districts in the medium category of the District Education Performance Index (DEPIx), and remaining in the under-performing.
Addressing a news conference following the release of the DEPIx 2020-23 report, Iqbal said Pakistan’s literacy rate of 60 percent was insufficient for progress and must be increased to 90 percent.
