Najaf Hameed, former tehsildar, and the sibling of ex-ISI chief Lt. General (retired) Fai Hameed, was apprehended at the Anti-Corruption Court premises.
His arrest by the anti-corruption department's Rawalpindi sector occurred after Judge Ali Nawaz Bhakar rejected his bail plea in a corruption and bribery case on Monday.
Sources reveal that Najaf Hameed was taken into custody by anti-corruption officials as per court directives and transported to Chakwal.
Allegedly, 18 individuals were implicated in a case involving bribery, abuse of authority, and financial losses to the national treasury. However, the rest of the suspects remain at large.
Najaf was later once again presented before Judge Ali Nawaz Bhakar of the Anti-Corruption Special Court. The court dismissed his pre-arrest bail application.
Najaf then decided to approach the senior civil judge (criminal) for pre-arrest bail. He will be presented before the court of the senior civil judge along with his lawyers in the custody of anti-corruption officials.
As per reports, Najaf Hameed had secured protective bail from the court in the bribery case. In April 2023, the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had initiated an inquiry against him on allegations of out-of-turn promotion and accumulating assets beyond means.
