The police claimed on Monday that they have arrested the facilitator of the suspect involved in the murder of senior advocate Khawaja Shamsul Islam.
The arrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was made with inter-provincial coordination, more than a week after the lawyer was shot dead in Karachi’s Defence area.
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Hassan, was taken into custody in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He allegedly helped the main accused escape after the killing.
Authorities also recovered the car used in the attack from his possession.
The arrest was made through technical tracing, and Hassan is now being interrogated as police intensify efforts to apprehend the prime suspect, Imran Afridi.

Investigators say Afridi allegedly opened fire on Shamsul Islam, a prominent lawyer, before fleeing with Hassan. Raids are underway in multiple locations to track him down.
Meanwhile, the Karachi Bar Association observed a strike in the City Court, Malir Court, and other subordinate courts in protest against the killing.
Court proceedings remained suspended, prisoners were not brought from jail, and litigants faced difficulties. Lawyers also announced a rally from the Sindh High Court to the Chief Minister’s House to demand justice.
Earlier, the Sindh Bar Council had announced a province-wide boycott of court proceedings on August 4 (Monday) in protest against the murder and has demanded the immediate arrest of the prime suspect.
According to police sources, the main accused, Imran Afridi, is the son of Nabi Gul, a Sindh police officer who had been assigned to the security of the slain lawyer.
