Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Wednesday demanded that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir should try former DG ISI General (retd) Faiz Hameed in an open court.

The former prime minister put forward his demand while talking with journalists at Adaila jail in Rawalpindi, where he is incarcerated.

"The issue of General (R) Faiz and me is not an internal issue of the army," Mr Khan said.

Earlier on August 19, Imran Khan claimed that the ex-spyman will be forced to testify against him to drag him into military court.

"I am a civilian ex-prime minister, trying me in a military court will tarnish the image of Pakistan," he clarified in today's informal media talk.

Responding to the claims of close relation between him and Mr Faiz, the veteran politician said: "Faiz became zero after retirement, why would I keep in touch with him?"

"General Faiz was not a hero after retirement," he added.

He also demanded to try the former militaryman in the open trial if he was involved in the May 9 riots.

"If General (R) Faiz is the main character of the May 9 conspiracy, then I am demanding an open trial."

The 72-year-old politico also accused the Army Chief of being involved in his arredy on May 9, 2023, when several military and civil installations were vandalised by PTI workers following the arrest of the party founder in a graft case.

"My abduction on May 9 was ordered by the No 1 king of the military and Super King."

He concluded that the May 9 incident is not a matter of national security, but rather a local issue.

Mr Hameed was taken into military custody for his alleged involvement in Top City case on Auggust 12.

"Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain [the] correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd)," the statement issued by ISPR read.

The military's media wing further said that the inquiry carried out by the forces found sufficient evidence to initiate disciplinary action against the retired general under the Pakistan Army Act.

"Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.

"In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post-retirement have also been established."

The army also initiated the process of Field General Court Martial against the former spyman after taking him into military custody.
