ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has served notices to journalist and anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan and YouTuber Asad Ali Toor for 'running' social media campaign against the judges.
According to media reports, the FIA has summoned both YouTubers tomorrow (Friday).
Asad Toor has been ordered to appear in Cybercrime Islamabad while Imran Riaz has been ordered to appear in Cybercrime Lahore at 11:00am.
Earlier, a suspect was arrested by law enforcement for allegedly participating in an online threatening campaign against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.
The man identified as Abul Wasay is a resident of Rawalpindi, who made threatening remarks to the CJP. He also attempted to defame his character on the micro-blogging site ‘X’.
The development came after the government established a joint investigation team on Wednesday to identify and prosecute those responsible for running an online threatening campaign targeting the judiciary and government officials.
“The rest of the people involved in the campaign will be identified and legal action will be taken against them," an official was quoted as saying.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is leading the probing team comprising a 20-grade officer from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB), alongside a deputy inspector general from Islamabad Police and a representative from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
