Government College University (GCU) Lahore has introduced a new dress code policy that prohibits students from wearing jeans, T-shirts, and jackets on campus.

This policy is part of the university's broader initiative to promote discipline and maintain a decorous environment.

The notification issued by the university administration specifies that male students are now required to wear dress shirts and pants, while female students must adhere to modest clothing guidelines, which include the additional requirement of wearing a dupatta. The administration has made it clear that strict measures will be enforced to ensure compliance with the new dress code.

GCU Vice Chancellor Dr. Shazia Bashir defended the decision, emphasizing the importance of upholding discipline and appropriate behavior within the academic institution.

She stated, "It is inappropriate for female students to wear T-shirts and tights in the university." Dr. Bashir also mentioned that male students should be encouraged to adopt formal attire, which aligns with the university's esteemed academic standards.

The new dress code has sparked discussions among students and faculty, with some viewing it as a necessary step to maintain decorum, while others see it as a restrictive measure.

The university's administration, however, remains firm in its decision, asserting that the policy is in line with the institution's commitment to fostering a respectful and disciplined academic environment.
