The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert across the country from June 7 to June 12, warning of a significant rise in temperatures, including in Karachi.
According to the Met Office, temperatures in Karachi could rise to as high as 43 degrees Celsius between June 8 and June 12. The department said that high humidity levels in the city are likely to increase the intensity of the heat, making conditions feel considerably hotter during daytime hours.
The PMD warned that the heat index, which combines temperature and humidity, could make temperatures feel as high as 43°C in Karachi from Sunday onwards.
In view of the expected heatwave conditions, the meteorological department advised residents to take precautionary measures, particularly children, women and the elderly, who are considered more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
