Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General (IG) Police Akhtar Hayat Gandapur and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Ahmed Ishaque Jehangir have been removed from their positions for separate reasons.
According to sources, IG KP was dismissed due to his failure to maintain law and order in the province, prompting authorities to replace him.
As per an official notification, Zulfiqar Hameed has been appointed as the new police chief for KP.
Violence in Kurram district had become a major source of criticism against the KP government and police, contributing to Gandapur’s removal.

Meanwhile, the federal government had also alleged that the KP administration had misused state machinery during the PTI-led march to Islamabad.
However, former IG KP Akhtar Hayat had reportedly instructed police officers to refrain from engaging in any political activities during the PTI protest in November 2024.
Apart from this, FIA Director General Ahmed Ishaque Jehangir was also removed from his post and reassigned as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the establishment division.
Insiders claim his dimissal was linked to the FIA's failure to curb human trafficking cases.
