The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the removal of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman from his position.

According to reports, the case was heard on a petition filed by citizen Usama Khilji through his counsel, Advocate Asad Ladha. Justice Babar Sattar of the IHC accepted the petition, ruling against the appointment of the PTA chairman.

The court had earlier reserved its judgment, which was announced on Tuesday in a detailed 99-page verdict authored by Justice Babar Sattar.

The judgment declared that the appointment of Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman as PTA chairman was not legally valid.

It ordered his immediate removal from office and directed that a senior member of the PTA be appointed as acting chairman until a permanent appointment is made.
